The story behind NALC Miao

Built around a simple idea

The Miao Sub Divisional Library was reimagined as a New Age Learning Centre to make learning more relevant, comfortable and engaging for a new generation. NALC was established in 2022 and was inaugurated on 7 May 2022, becoming officially functional shortly afterwards.

The concept blended books and e-books with smart screens, tablets, Wi‑Fi, comfortable modular furniture and spaces for activity-based learning. It was designed to give children and young people an attractive alternative to traditional library environments.

“Library, café, smart, futuristic and interactive space” — the idea was to make reading feel less like a chore and more like an experience.

The initiative was conceived and driven by Sunny K. Singh during his tenure as Additional Deputy Commissioner, Miao, with community participation and support from government and partners.
